LOS ALGODONES
EDITION 6
I remember growing up, my mother had this wonderful fascination with this very large book. It was a guide for all the pharmaceutical products and medications. My mother was my inspiration when I saw her every night studying this book, although she only went to grammar school, she was trying to study and learn about medicines.
My siblings and I, all went to high school in Guadalajara, Mexico, the capital city for the state of Jalisco. Most of my family went into the medical field, and two of my brothers went into dentistry. While in high school, I worked in my older brother’s dental office as a receptionist and later as a dental assistant. The experience working with my older brother are what most inspired me to go into the dental field. So I once again followed my siblings and went to college in Guadalajara for a career in dentistry and a degree in Odontology.
A good business sense also runs in my family, my oldest sister is an administration business manager, my two brothers, who are dentists, own 2 of the more successful dental offices in Los Algodones, and my youngest brother is the accountant for the most prominent medical group here in Los Algodones.
After college, a year of service and several years working with my own patients in Guadalajara. I soon found myself, here in Los Algodones, again working alongside my older brother. I learned a lot in my 2 years working with him, through hard work and by planning every dental procedure.
I opened my clinic here 8 years ago with only two small cubicles but we soon expanded the office to 5 units and brought in three more dentists. We also have other dental specialists who help with any and all specialty treatments.
I think everywhere there are good and bad things. I think that in life your profession is one from your heart, to do something you enjoy doing. When you study something that fills your heart, you do your job the best you can and the best you know how and you get economic reward as much as satisfaction and accomplishment of a job well done. I believe that in life both in Mexico and the United States there are dentists with heart and are good at their job. There is no better feeling than when I fix your teeth and make you super happy and I never turn down a big hug. I love the closeness I have with all my patients.
I try to keep my patients as comfortable as I can, sometimes we have a masseuse come in to massage your feet and hands to help you relax while I’m working. There can be long wait times in a day for the lab so we will soon have a guest house that will be available instead of waiting in the office all day. I feel that the most important thing is that my patients feel good about their dental work, about the aesthetics and how they feel when they eat. I’m a dentist with heart and I love my job
